Trades Worker

The City of Alexandria is seeking professional individuals to begin a career in government Gas Department, located in the heart of Central Louisiana to perform a variety of skilled maintenance tasks including the installation, maintenance, and repair of a utility system, carpentry, electrical, plumbing, painting and heating and air conditioning repair. Positions in the Gas Department are subject to 24-hour call.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Receives work orders; maintains related records on work performed; stocks trucks and vehicles with equipment, tools and materials needed to complete work.
• Performs skilled tasks related to the maintenance, repair, and installation of the natural gas distribution system.
• Estimates time, materials, and equipment required for jobs assigned; requisitions materials as required.
• Uses and operates a variety of hand and power tools in

Minimum Qualifications:

• High school diploma or GED; sufficient skilled maintenance experience in area of assignment, such as electrical, natural gas, plumbing, HVAC, carpentry and related areas; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
• Specific training or certification in specialized trade may be required.

Necessary Special Requirements:

• Must possess a valid drivers license. Will be required to obtain a valid State of Louisiana drivers license at time of appointment and maintain throughout employment for this classification.
• Must possess and maintain any state or federal certifications required in the field of assignment. Gas Department must obtain certifications required by the Office of Pipeline Safety within six (6) months of hire.

Work Schedule:

40 hrs per week; M-F 7:00a - 3:30p with Rotating Call After Hours, Weekends, and Holidays
